Nouveau necklace with pearl drop – Pewter openwork detail necklace with a cultured freshwater pearl drop on 16.5″ chain

Cultured pearls can be divided into salt-water and freshwater varieties, they account for over 95% of world pearl production.

Freshwater pearls are grown in mussels when a nucleus of shaped mantle from another mollusc is placed inside.

A mussel can grow between 10 and 20 pearls!

Traditional metaphysical properties for the June birthstone pearl are modesty, chastity and purity. The pearl is also used to enhance personal integrity.
